Optimism is medicine.
Mindset is a major component of the mind-body connection and science continues to unveil the power our beliefs have in the healing process.
One rationale for this link is that our beliefs influence our behavior—when you believe you’re capable of something, you’re more likely to make it happen.
When it comes to the ability of mindset to influence health outcomes, the placebo effect is one area of study that provides some interesting context.
In the case of pain disorders, brain imaging shows that the expectation of relief from a treatment can alter brain activation in different regions that may change the perception of pain. And when physicians and our social circle provide positive encouragement to reach health goals we’re also more likely to heal.
There is still a lot to learn about the way our mind can impact the body, and vice versa, but emerging research is giving us a more comprehensive picture than ever before.
That’s why I made my new docu-series, Broken Brain 2: The Body-Mind Connection.

There is big news in the field of heart health, and it’s not what you expect.
For so long, the heart has been viewed as an organ that functions by order of the brain,
simply pumping blood throughout the body as it’s told.
An article from Psychiatric Times, reveals much more on the physiology of how the heart and brain interact. The heart actually sends more information through the nervous system to the
brain than vice versa.
That’s right, the heart sends more signals to the brain, than the brain sends to the heart. These signals have profound effects on brain function, mental clarity, and even emotions. This revolutionary understanding of the heart-brain connection is called HeartMath.
By shifting rhythms of the heart we can shift the brain, a process our docu-series expert, Rollin McCraty, will tell you is necessary for establishing a new baseline and reducing stress and anxiety.
Alignment between the heart and brain allows a new sense of clarity and intuition; we can gain this alignment by learning to modulate heart rhythm and our emotional state, sending the message through our entire body.
This means we have control over how we perceive, think, feel and perform. This is huge.
HeartMath is just one of the groundbreaking modalities we explore in my upcoming docu-series, Broken Brain 2: The Body-Mind Connection.
